 The perfect gift! Feb 15, 2008

I gave this as a Christmas gift to my 11-year old neighbor. She loves it and uses it and it was the perfect gift. (Her mom was even jealous I found such a perfect gift). This is MUCH BETTER THAN BEDAZZLER. DO NOT BUY BEDAZZLER. I bought Bedazzler first, before reading the reviews. I thought I would just return it - but I got it right from the company (a mistake) and its not so easy. They say it's just $19.99, but then they double charge you shipping (they charge you 9.99 shipping for the FREE mini which is about 2 oz. and comes in the same box). I am trying to sell my Bedazzler on ebay.
But I HIGHLY recommend the Gemagic! My neighbor LOVES it.

This product takes some finagling to use. The gems are basically staples, with the front part having the "gem" and the back having 4 or 5 (depending on style) sharp triangular points that are then folded over to hold the gem in place. The tool does the folding over.
One is supposed to put a plunger into the machine, use a small tool to hold the gem and insert it into the plunger. One then places the clothing onto the tool and presses it down onto the metal plate.
The good:
Gems do look cute on items.
Washes ok, as long as you have gotten all the gems on correctly.
Hand plunger actually works better.
The bad:
It is hard to put the gem into the plunger with the tool.
It is difficult to line up the clothing correctly on the plate.
If you do not get it exactly lined up the little prongs can fold out rather than in. This leaves a sharp part sticking out. You can rebend them with a tweezer, but it is not easy.
It is next to impossible to remove misplaced gems without tearing the cloth.
We (my 10 year old daughter and I) found that the hand tool actually works better. It is easier to position the items as long as you carefully line up the small plate behind the hand tool it seems to work (bend all the tabs correctly) more often than the stapler type tool.
This worked better on heavy material, like a canvas tote bag, than on lighter weight clothing.
Overall, for the price, my daughter is enjoying it. But she needs my help when working with it.

The GeMagic is great for decorating clothes but if you make a mistake it's hard to take the gem back out and sometimes the gems fall off when you wash the clothing. Overall I like it!

My daughter is so happy with this product. It works great and the studs and gems are easy to set. I bought this instead of the Bedazzler based on customer review and I have to agree with the positive ones. It's great !

My daughter just got it a couple of days ago for her 10th birthday and it seems to be working just fine. Its her first and she is still getting the hang of it, but so far no complaints.
