Great combination of sophistication and practicality Dec 10, 2011
By Maine Colonial I bought this bag after admiring an Urban Oxide bag a friend had had for years that still looked great. The pebbled recycled rubber fabric is easy to keep clean and looking fresh. It doesn't smell like rubber, either. The strap can be adjusted to be worn as a shoulder strap or cross-body strap.
Now for a detailed description of how the bag's storage works:
Take a look at the picture. See that pocket on the outside of the bag? The picture is a little deceptive, because the pocket is actually bigger than the picture makes it look. The part of the pocket covered by the flap (which has a velcro closure) is 11 inches wide. But the opening actually extends beyond the flap all the way to the side seam on both sides, meaning that the pocket is really 15 inches wide. If you look very closely at the picture, you'll see the line of the top part of the pocket extending beyond the flap. This makes the front pocket usable for larger objects. Inside that front pocket, there are two vertical mesh pen pockets and a mesh smartphone pocket that is 4 inches wide and 5 inches long.
An iPad fits very nicely and securely in the outside pocket and, of course, there would be loads of room for it in the main part of the bag.
The main part of the bag is 14 inches wide at the top and 16 inches wide at the bottom. From top to bottom, it's 12 inches, and the depth is 4 inches (measured at the bottom of the bag). The zippered top has a 12-inch opening. My 13-inch MacBook doesn't fit in the bag, because the zipper opening isn't wide enough. I was never planning to use the bag for carrying the laptop, so that's not an issue for me. But it might be for somebody else. The bag is plenty big enough for an 11-inch laptop.
Now open up the zip top and here's what you'll find in the nylon-faced interior:
A zippered pocket that is 5.5 inches long and 8 inches wide (though the zipper opening is 7 inches wide);
A hanging key fob;
On the same side of the bag as the key fob and the zippered pocket, a mesh pocket that is 5 inches long and 4 inches wide, and a 2-inches-longer mesh pocket that has a velcro flap;
On the opposite side, a mesh pocket that is 5.5 inches long and 4 inches wide, and two more mesh pen holders.
The mesh pockets are made of some kind of flexible material that has a very slight give to it but that isn't actually stretchy. Things don't fall out of the pockets, but they aren't hard to remove from them, either.
Other than the metal hardware you can see in the picture and the metal key fob, the bag is 100% black with one other exception: Inside the bag, next to the key fob, there is a 1.5"x1.5" sewn-on Urban Oxide label that is silver-colored. If you want an all-black look even on the inside, I think you could remove the label without damaging the lining, so long as you take a little care in the process.
I'm very happy with the bag and looking forward to using it for years to come.

Worth the cost Dec 07, 2011
By Barbi I wanted a non-leather, durable bag for me to put all my stuff in but wasn't too large.
I like the plasic material and the bubble effect. It feels modern. I can just clean it with a wet cloth. It's a good size and the front pouch is helpful.
I wish that the velcro that holds the front pouch in place were magnets or a latch. Often I end up with the front not being closed.
I was sure from the picture that there were additional side sections for glasses or cell phone. But when I got the bag I saw that it was all part of the one big front section and not 3 -- one front and 2 side -- and that what I thought was a separate side section was just a seam. I was looking forward to having separate side pockets.
It's the right size, right material, looks great but could be designed better.
Love It Apr 18, 2012
By boolie Love this bag! I will be looking for a smaller version as well. Very durable. My only problem is the bag itself is a little heavy.
Hardy and stylist vegan bag Oct 31, 2011
By Swen I am vegan so always am on the look-out for stylish non-leather bags. I have now been using this bag EVERY DAY for the last 14 months and it shows absolutely no wear. I'm now thinking of buying the urbanoxide tote.
